R Rajkumari of M S Chellamuthu Trust is this year’s recipient of Soroptimist-Madurai woman achiever award

Packed with a series of ongoing and new projects for the year, the Soroptimist International (Madurai) made its way into the eighth charter year this week. The occasion was celebrated with the presentation of the SI Woman of the Year Award to the Executive Director of M S Chellamuthu Trust & Research Foundation, R Rajkumari.

Having spent 25 years in providing psychiatric assistance to people with mental health problems, Rajkumari in her acceptance speech, lamented the prevalent barriers to seeking treatment and appealed to all to never give up on someone with mental illness. “When ‘I’ is replaced with ‘we’, illness becomes wellness,” she said.
